Default Halo Projector Headlights messing up alternator

Yo,

The check engine light came on yesterday morning so I took it to the honda service place and they ran some tests on it. They said to much voltage is coming from the headlights and messing up the alternator. The reason I think it's doing that is because my freinds and I weren't sure what to wire the halos too. So we took the 2 red wires on each headlight and spliced them into the dimm lights. We took the black wires from 1 headlight and grounded them and the ones from the other headlight and directly connected them to the battery. The instructions only said connect the black wires to the negative parking wire. We didn't know how to do that so that's why we did it the other way. Anyone know how to connect the wires the wright way so they will stop draining my alternator? Or heard of anything like this before? Thanx for any help.

my car is a 2000 Accord LX 2D coupe

the dealer will tell you to replace them with the stock headlights. My friend has a 99 accord and when she installed highwe wattage bulbs it caused her car's check engine light to come on. The computer senses an abnormal load on the alt and will throw the check engine light. When she installed normal headlight's the problem dissapeared.

I have a 94 accord and I can use the higher wattage bulbs in both the low and high beams without any issues.

Yeah that's what he said. What should I do? I don't get why they would sell these headlights for this car and then not work right.

Nope, just the ones it came with.

I disconnected the halos completly last night so only the parking, dimms and brights are connected and the check engie light came back on this morning. If I put the stock lights back in do u think the check engie light will go off?

You can try putting the stock lights back in, but try taking out the lights that came with it and put the stock lights in with the halo's.

replace it with oem spec wattage bulb before you overload your harness and start melting stuff.

Silverstar do sell oem wattage bulb that is not terribly yellowish.

Eurolite sells Xenon Crystals that I don't think are DOT approved but don't have yellowish to them and you can get them in stock wattage. They look white with some blue or really blue if you only have one headlight Eurolite and the reflect blue when shining them up against something white so they look nice yet won't melt stuff as they are stock wattage.
