instead of removing AC...
say, instead of removing the AC, would i still free up the horsepower if i just turned off my AC compressor via the 'A/C' button on the air vents? if not, why not? just curious!
whoa! that's a lotta weight!clutch on the ac pulley to be like a dummy pulley? i've never heard of that. but then, i've never heard of a lot of things.
Yes, when the AC is not on...the pulley just spins. When you turn on the AC the clutch engages.
Pulling the AC will not yield any noticeable gains. It will just make you get tired of the car faster.

The AC compressor has a clutch that allows it to engage and disengage.. The pulley spins freely as long as the clutch is disengaged and does nothing. When engaged, it does have a slight power robbing property that allows ur AC system to function...
