Weird noise, may be common.. Help
Quick question guys..
This might be common - but I couldn't net anything in a search. I have a weird noise coming from the tranny on my Lude. Its ONLY and I mean ONLY when I'm starting from a stop in first gear. And its ONLY about 1/8 times I take off. Its a metal on metal whining noise, almost as though something is not being lubricated properly. It happens when I've got the clutch about half way up.
As far as I can tell, there is no rhyme or reason WHEN this happens. Occasionally when its cold, other times when warmed up. It happens when RPM's reach around 2k I believe while initially letting out the clutch.
Any inisight is appreciated. Other than that - I have no tranny/clutch/shifting issues

I had the exact same thing happen on my H22A4 (from my wrecked 2000 base). Same exact symptoms. Seems to be pretty damn common with 5th gens.
I got so fed up I pulled the tranny off and swapped out the clutch and flywheel. The clutch looked fine, slightly worn but fine. The flywheel, however, had heat marks on it like a warped brake rotor. I am convinced that this was the source of the problem. Now I've got a noisy *** aftermarket setup, but at least I know it is supposed to make noise.
You might be able to just resurface the flywheel, but why?

Those were my thoughts exactly.. Its definately not a CV.. I guess there is a possibility it could be the throw out bearing - but it doesn't have the same usual sound they create and they usually make noise more often than this..
I guess I'll wait it out and see what the scoop ends up being - I most definately wont pull the tranny and re-surface the flywheel just for this.
Any other comments or ideas are greatly appreciated !!

really doesn't sound like the TOB to me. given the fact that your symptoms are exactly the same as mine, I think its likely that its the combination of a worn flywheel mating surface and possibly a slightly glazed clutch. why not use it as an excuse to upgrade?

I will do that at some point - its just hard to justify a clutch/flywheel on a BONE stock car..
I'll do it when I boost it and just live with it until then unless it gets worse.

I have the same problem but it's 5th gear, but itonly does it first time I shift into 5th if I take it out of 5th and shift back into 5th... it goes super smoothly
but if I shift down to 4th then back to 5th the gear shift kinda vibrates and makes a small sound but it's not a grind.
I did learn to drive stick on this car so I might have glazed the clutch
Also it's kinda rough going to 5th.
