Default D16Z6 or D15 VTEC

I got very little hits on the search for a direct comparison of these two motors.

I have a stock crx dx (non vtec), and want to buy a vtec engine and rebuild it solid. Pretty much new everything, and then turbo it.

Does the .1 liter affect much ? theres a good $300 price difference in the engines. Which is more solid for a FI application and which is better for upgrading? From what little I could find, it seems the z6 is easier to upgrade.

Any input would be appreciated

how much can you get a z6 vs d15 for? id say go for the better price/lower milage. whatever seems like the better deal, they are pretty similar. however d16z6 will probably have more aftmkt parts avail, but then again they are most likely interchangeable

i meant to add that you might have to search each one individually and compare them like that. there weren't many threads comparing the two. i've got a z6 that i just killed and replaced it with a z6.

you said you're going to be rebuilding either one with pretty much new everything, so get the cheaper one, since you will be able to pick all the new parts

rebuilding the z6 would be cheaper, since the d15b pistons have a unique offset. the d15b has a more aggressive cam and a little more compression so it does not lose any power to the z6.

d16z6 would probly be best. but a Z6 bottom end with a d15b head would work awesome. It might even up your compression. Im not to sure. Theres diffrent combos you can do to get a better motor. But if your rebuilding I would rebuild the d16z6 with diffrent pistons to up the compression. More compression=More Power.

BUT a d15 will have a lower rod\crank ratio. Witch will mean higher revs.
