the a6 dist. does not line up with the vtec head. you have to modify the legs with a dremel or something similar to get it on.

The slot on the distributor is keyed so it will only go in to the cam one way, this prevents people from installing it 180 deg out. The extra room in the slots that your talking about is to adjust the ignition timing, you do this with a timing light. Jump the service connector located beneth the dash on the passenger side, then start the car let it warm up, and move the distributor so the red line between the two white lines lines up perfectly with the mark on the timing cover. Then snug one of the bolts holding the distributor on and verify that it didn't move. Snug the rest and your on your way.

The distributor should bolt on with no problems. I run a 92-95 one on my A6 head and didn't have to change anything, and the car will start as long as the timing is somewhat close.
