i wanted to know if anyone has this setup or has heard it on a car ? any sound clips/vids ?



... i'd believe this is someone's setup in the prelude forum .

i wanted to set up something on my h23a1 that will look like stock . i wanted to use a 2.5" carsound cat with a 22" resonator with a turndown at the end such as these setups above . and then i wanted to install the axleback of my stock muffler on so i wont get a ticket or anything and also because of the appearance of a stock muffler . my car is a daily/street driver and i beat on it around town whenever no one is around . i figure the sound will be loud, but how loud ? would you compare the sound to an apex n1 ? and will it be buzzy/raspy ?

i already got 2.5" piping with a cat/resonator/muffler . i was just wondering if it would be worth it to cut the rear section off of my setup and add a turndown pipe . and i doubt any power would be loss right ?

 

it may infact be quiter then the N1. The N1 actually amplifies the sound. I had my muffler off and we pulled my car onto the lift and with no canister, it wasnt loud at all. Put the canister on and you could hear me 5 miles away.

I say try it! I got a mig welder and a resonator so it would cost me 15 bucks for some pipe and flanges maybe ill give it a shot just for ***** Also, at least for sure on a 5th gen the exhaust would never be straight. There is an S bend right before the gas tank.

 

that would be great . if you happen to do it before i do, please tell me about it . i was looking around on the web today and actually found something that would probably help quieten the setup down even more . apparently, a few companies make these things called "cone inserts" where you are supposed to insert it near the exit of the header collector or muffler outlet . and supposedly these inserts are supposed to greatly reduce the sound of the exhaust depending which way you insert it . i posted a picture of it below so you have an idea of what i am talking about . but the pricing is rediculous, being that i found them for around ~ $50 each . it basically looks like something i can find around the kitchen or make for 1 or 2 bucks .

this is what is stated from the company for the insert:

"The Vortex Insert Cone, installed near the exit of the header collector or muffler outlet, provides a large friction area to reflect and dissipate sound energy, thus reducing the dB level. Because no significant backpressure has been introduced, the engine is still able to use the scavenge ability of a good header to create horsepower and torque. Dyno and track testing show significant noise reduction with little or no power loss."
