about 3-4 weeks ago i put some new ngk colder spark plugs in and i was wondering about how long would i have to drive the car or wait until i could get a good reading off the plug? cuz i just checked them out and they look brand spanking new. white as hell. i dont see how i could be running lean so i guess ill have to wait longer? i only drive the car a couple days outta the week also.. thanks!

 

Shut it down after your are doing a pull and check them. Shouldn't be white anymore.

i guess im running pretty rich then because i have a 1 full turn of dark black soot on the base ring. hmmm maybe i can turn the boost up a little higher?

 

Mine last for 3 weeks or so before I get fouling symptoms, I change em alot.

 

No, don't turn the boost higher. unless you want white plugs

 

I would be surprised if 12.5afr and 9.5afr would look much different on a plug but it could make or break you motor, literally. Make sure you shut it down right after your run and get a wideband. Look at the plug to determine if the heat range is good and particularly for signs of detonation.

 

yea im gonna keep an eye on them.

but im running a greddy kit with fmic and emanage at 5.5 psi. do you think it would be safe to turn it up to 7psi without retune? dont know anyone around here that can tune emanage and i dont know nothing about tuning so...

OK i read up alot on how to read plugs recently.

basically as said,
do a full pull, go thru 1st 2nd 3rd, and turn the car off
coast to the side of the road and pull som plugs.

the metal ring you're talking about, top of the threads..
SHOULD be jet black, flat black, not wet at all, but yeah black.

porcelain should be white,
this is what you should look at VERY CAREFULLY,
little black marks that look like you took a pepper shaker to it are signs of detonation,
as well as little shiny marks(thats real bad, thats aluminum)

now look at the ground strap, the metal arc that goes over the electrode.
this will tell you about ur heatrange. There will be a change in color on the groundstrap somewhere along it, it should be somewhere towards the middle, alittle past the bend in the strap(heading towards where it welds to the plug).

if it changes really soon, like before the bend, then u need a hotter plug.
if it changes mad late, or goes off the strap(past the weld point) then its not cold enuf, but since is a 2step, that would be more likely that you're running too much ignition timing
