A test pipe that is a direct replacement for your cat ?
I mean bolt on, no modification, just take a part off and put this one on.... comes with O2 bung and flanges.... it's gunna be about $80.

largely depends on the exhaust you have. I had an Apexi WS exhaust and changing from cat to test pipe didn't make a difference in sound at all. Hollowing out the cat made it sound like crap though. Also, 'round here I only have to pass emissions 1 day a year.
I hate replacing cats. Never had to replace a test pipe.

Hollowing your stock cat is prob worse then running it with the (un-hallowed)cat, and it sounds like pure ***. Test pipes > you.
