Default cleaning between passes.

How do you pro do it? It seemed like no matter how hard i tried, i still get really bad contamination after the first pass. I used a wirewheel on a grinder, i even tried dremel tool with a lil ss brush, and wipe with acetone afterward. Thanks for all the tips.

If you can't hand brush it while it's still warm, and get the color off of it, you're doing something wrong.

Mig, tig or stick? Anything with flux and spatter will take a little bit of effort to clean up. E6010 is a bitch to clean up compared to E7018, but it can still be cleaned up with a brush. If you're running too hot, it'll be a lot harder to clean off the flux.

Tig'ing most metals should need little to no cleaning between passes. With tig you're adding 0 (zero) contaminants if you clean properly before hand.

Yes, hand brush is what I meant....as pictured above.

I usually dont reccomend any sort of electric or air powered brushing. If you can't brush it off by hand, there's something else wrong. However, the exception is if you're trying to brush color off after the pipe has cooled. You'll about have to use some power brushing.

The reason I don't reccomend using any powered brushing is because very small particles of the brush will become embedded into the metal you're welding. This can create problems....especially if you're welding aluminum. Aluminum doesn't weld well when you have bits of stainless embedded in it
