Bypass valve should be renamed to P.O.S. Valve
Well it rained today. I have no school today so i was bored and thought that i would just take my bypasss valve off and make my aem cai a short ram.
I'm not sure if its just my head, but my car seems to be faster? What the heck! Sure its louder, but when vtec engaged, i could DEFINITELY feel it. Whats going on here? Is the aem cai w/bypass valve worse than an aem sri?

The bypass valve does affect airflow. I don't use it myself, since for it to work, the WHOLE filter needs to be submerged in water... and if you're driving in that much water, you're pretty screwed anyways...
Maybe the short ram has a bigger dip/spike at VTEC. The cold weather could be another reason.
yeah i'm not saying for sure its faster. I'm just going by my butt dyno. I can sort've feel a spike when vtec engages at 4400 rpms. Before i could never even feel anything. I would only hear my secondaries open up and it would pull to redline pretty hard. now it spikes!

my butt dyno tells me that the aem as a sri gives better low end and more torque, my butt also tells me that as a cai the power is spread all around, but a lot of torque is lost....
ask my *** another question

i had the bypass on for a while but i didnt like it, so i took it off but i think i'm gonna go back to a short ram due mostly to sound and not worrying about hydrolock.
all the AEM cais with the bypass ive seen and heard are not as loud as the ones without them. And dont forget, the louder ur car is the faster it is.
As I have read, the by-pass valve engages if your filter cone happens to suck in water or becomes completely submerged. I don't think the by-pass value was designed to function as a filter cone itself, but the prevent you from destroyinh your motor altogether in wet weather.
