Kenwood Excelon Demo Mode
I installed a KDC-MPV8025 excelon mp3/cd reciever this weekend. I can't figure out how to get it out of "demo mode." While it's in demo mode, you can't set the security code, and a few options revert to default within 20 seconds or so (like the angle of the motorized faceplate).
In the manual, it says to hit the [5] button, and press the reset switch to turn it off of demo mode. I have tried that several times but it doesn't work. The unit is not erasing the memory when the power goes off, because it remembers the eq settings and has track memory (starts at the same place you left off). It also remembers my screen color configurations.
Does anyone know how to take these units out of Demonstration Mode?

well I have the X859... but it sounds like the same controls... You have to be out of all modes I believe... as in, Off mode... like there is radio, cd, aux.... go into off mode... then do that "5" button, hold it, it will go into options, then if it is the same, then look around for the correct option, skip track and folder buttons should be the ones for the menus, check your manual to see which does which, for mine, the folder ones change the option, and holding the skip ones go into the option... there will be display options it seems, if yours is the same, like Type A type B and type C... then more stuff...
You probably know this, but basically, I think you just need to be in off mode (I have no idea what the reset button would do... try not using it... you need a needle to do mine, and I just used it twice for when electrical problems froze the unit... then it was fixed)

yeah, the reset button is really small, and i have to use a toothpick or something.
I'll try doing it from standby mode. I sent Kenwood Support an email but they say it will take 3-5 days for a response.
Thanks for the help so far

i had the same problem.. that demo mode is a pain in the ***..
heres what u need to do....hold in the 5 button and press the reset button, and let go of the reset button before you let go of the 5 button.
they should have been more specific in the manual
that will do the trick

thanks notguilty411, but I figured it out last night. I held the 5 button the whole time, and the panel slid to a 90-degree angle, and the unit turned back on in STANDBY, and didn't go to Demo Mode... i was like "w00t!!"
Now everything's set. Thanks for the help guys... I searched everywhere for how to do this and couldn't find any info.
