i recently picked up a 91 hatch. i found that the bushing that bolts the front of the rear trailing arm to the bottom of the chassis is kinda ripped and torn. this being my beater car i dont wanna spend tons of cash, so i think im gonna use some window weld to fill it in and stop it from ripping more. what do u guys think of this?
isn't window weld pretty much silicon? Unless its a harder compound with super adhesive abilities, it won't do much. A long time ago, I filled engine mounts with various silicon products, and the fillings would just pop out after a while.

hmmm interesting. ive heard about numerous dsm guys using this to fill in their motor mounts, and they make 3,4,500 whp. i just kinda wanted to have this prevent or prolong the bushing from completely ripping...
I heard of this being used to stiffen mounts as well, but I'm not sure it's going to work very well on a mount that's already ripped.
But it won't hurt to try...

I did it before, afterwards car rode very well except it would snap oversteer on bumps. There's a lot of bridges where I live with a lot of irregularities on them - when hitting these irregularities the rear would sometimes step out!
Not a pleasant experience, I don't recommend filling the bushings unless you're desperate. Honda replacements are only $60 CDN.

oh...I'm sorry, I missed the fact that he was talking about suspension bushings...no way would I do that on a suspension bushing.

I filled mine for a short time before replacing them with Mugens. It didnt seem to make much of a difference. There is also a Rubber-based product you could get at home-deopt that comes in a caulking tube...its used to mount plumbing standpipes that stick out of the roof. It might be harder when it dries.

Have you tried pushing it hard yet? Attend one autocross and tell me if it doesn't snap oversteer. I thought it was great, too, until I actually pushed the car and it wanted to spin on me every time I hit a minor imperfection in the track. Now I have some replacement arms with ripped bushings and I ain't filling them in again... it may be noisy, but at least it's not unpredictable anymore.

I have used 3m Poly in 3 sets of mounts already; it makes a very noticeable difference.
its not silicone; its polyurethane.
