Default car burning oil?

What could the problem be? It seems like my car is burning 4 quarts every month. One thing I have noticed is my bumper turning black right above the exhaust.

2 things really..Valves arent sealing or Piston rings really worn and allowing alot of blow by...what the mileage? How about the condition of spark plugs?

Get a valve adjustment and a leakdown test...that will give you results too.

Is it burning or leaking?

Do you see smoke coming out of the exhaust? If so, under what condition? Do you ever see drops of oil under your car after it has been sitting over night or something?

4 quarts in a month is a LOT. Would be better if you could give it in mileage though since some people might drive 100 miles in a month and some people might drive 3000.

i believe he was asking more of how many miles do you drive a month..... 191,000 is alot of miles though if nothing has ever been done to your mottor and it has been driven had most of those 191,000 miles im sure your engine is ready for a nice overhaul... im sure like was said before your main problem is probably the piston rings letting a lil oil by into the combustion chamber

I dont drive a lot of miles per month. Id say average. Maybe around 1000. I bought the car with 140,000. Got the timing belt, water pump, done not too long ago. HOw much u guys think itll cost to replace the piston rings?

depends on where you ahve it done and with what kind of parts really.... i would say somewhere between 500 and 1000 for good quality parts and labor unless you can do it yourself or have a hook up

my da9 is doin the same thing...i figured it was the valve seals because i did a compression test and i got normal results.
so i calculated this: for a shop to repace my valve seals(i cant do it myself since this is my only car...no time..at the moment), it will cost around 400 bucks...****...jus to replace that....**** no...
i decided it is cheaper to buy a rebuilt head...and the motor...i will leave it that way(highmileage and ready to break at any moment) since i have a b16 laying around and waiting for some attention...
