think i been running 89 octane in gsr for a while.. what do i do now?
i noticed i never really look at the octane numbers, i usually just fill up with the middle one, which i thought was premium. but turns out here in CA the highest octane level is 91, so the middle one would be 89. my car seems to be running fine, i don't think i experience much detonating, but i am afraid i may have damaged the internals? what can i do? help? suggestions? thanks.
I wouldn't worry too much at all. Your car has a knock sensor which will prevent any damage. The only thing you loss while running 89 was a little performance, but no permanent damage.
If you are really concern, try LUCAS fuel treatment. Its really good stuff especially when and if you are going to smog your car. It really cleans junk out of your car's engine..
well correct me if im wrong, but the knock sensor only works in low rpms, under 4-5k right? if he is racing or running his car hard then 87 octane might not be good for his car?
just a thought, i could be wrong

After reading this test on Lucas oil additives, I've shyed away from their products: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/...s.htm
There's no need to run any fuel treatment or booster. Just run 91+ and your car will be fine.

no you're right on,
knock sensors only work at the lower rpms, at the higher rpms it can't tell the difference between knockin and normal engine noise so it's disabled.
check your compression, that will tell you if you've been detonating, if you're numbers are still high then you haven't done any damage, in the future run the recommended gas

Detonation is usually detected from a pinging noise under load. Had it in my 90 GS just before it got totalled. Usually only happened while getting on the freeway with an uphill ramp.
You can also tell if one of your spark plugs is FUCKED up (all bent to hell), that is usually detonation.
