Default Speedometer problems.

Driving sometimes my Speedometer just drops outs, sometimes will come back, sometimes not. If it goes out for awhile it will throw a VSS code. Will it throw a VSS code IF the Speedometer head in the cluster is bad?

No the code is given because the VSS sends out 2 signals one to your cluster and one to the ECU, so if its not working they both go out, my $$$ is on your VSS sensor

if it throws a VSS code then its the sensor in the tranny that's bad...the cluster should be fine but it COULD be the culperate too...but since it is throwing a code, i'd replace the VSS first before the cluster

What if the speedo doesn't work, but the car isn't throwing a cel?

I would say that would mean the acutally speedometer head in the guage cluster is broken.

Alright. Because it works every once in awhile, I wasn't sure if the sensor, wires from sensor to ecu/cluster were bad, or if it was actually my cluster.

tach shows rpm, not speed. And it sucks trying to guess how fast you are going based off of your rpm

unfortunately, eg's are notorious for having this issue. i recommend swapping out the vss from a friend and if that doesn fix it, a quick way to determine if you need a new cluster is to take it out and push the needle. if there is not resistence like the tach, then you need a new cluster. i've been going 100mph for a couple of months now in 2nd gear haha stupid speedo

if the speedo has resistance start checking wires, fuses etc. hope that helps

the wires from the harness that plug into the top of your VSS is loose or corrided , unplug the harness to the sensor and make sure none of the above things are happing
