Default What problem with the transmission would prevent shifting into first or second gear?

I am replacing my tranny, its about done! but i don't know exactly whats wrong with it. Something with the syncros I'm assuming. But what would prevent me from shifting into first or second gear. That happened to me last night, i couldn't move the shifter over into the left side of the shift pattern. Eventually I managed to muscle/manipulate it in there. I just don't know what causes that. A broke piece of the shift fork or something jumping around in there, any ideas?

Sounds more like a shift fork problem than a synchro problem.

would that explain all of the grinding i have been getting. I have only heard it squeel 3 times. but it just makes a lot of noise while driving and grinds when shifting. I plan on tearing it apart when i put the new one in, but i was just curious befor hand.

could be shift fork but my experience is the hub and slider wear causing it to lock out if ya wanna call it that

I would highly advise that you get that tranny replaced or fixed asap...because my tranny started to do that and i ignored it and then my tranny gave out.....it wouldnt shift or move, because my synchros were bad n then my bearing went out then the shift fork...now my car is out and i'm searching for a new tranny now.......
