Default Cleaning heads etc

I've accumulated some z6 heads and it's time to start cleaning them. One of the heads is badly caked in oil and varnished. I don't feel like taking everything apart to get it hot tanked so I'm looking at other alternative methods. I don't mind the elbow grease

I really don't know anything about cleaning engine parts but I would use simple green and let that baby soak for awhile then wiping it clean.

Would it be safe to pressure wash it off afterwards after letting the engine degreaser soak?

ya that should be fine, but after your done degreasing them, spray them down with some light oil or wd-40 so that no surface rust/oxidation appears

i like to use seafoam deep creep for the carbon build up.

Brakekleen works great too. definately agree with the oil or WD 40 to prevent rust.

I went to Wal-Mart and picked up some Engine degreaser and Carb cleaner. Spent less than 9 dollars. I ran out of carb cleaner and needed more I cleaned up two of the 3 heads since the other one didn't need it. Of the two I cleaned, one was deeply varnished and I couldn't really do much with it. What could cause it?

Anyhow, here are the pictures:

not enough oil changes lol, but i would just leave it or take the rocker assembly off and let it soak in degreaser for a little bit, that should take most of the tarnish crap off along with a steel brush or something

OIL THEM NOW, they will rust in less than 24 hours, I know from experience unfortunately. Especially if you pressure washed them off at all, the moisture will own those rocker arms with a quickness.
