Default Engine Swap DYI? Is it hard? D15B or B16a2

Well, my camshaft was broken and I want to replace the whole engine coz it's got 142k anyways.

I found a D15B jdm engine with 35k miles for $600(is this a good deal?).

I was told that this should bolt on directly with my D16Z6 stock motor. My car is a 93 ex4dr.

Question is...will it be hard to put in the motor myself? The shop quoted me about $1100 for the engine replacement labor and all.

When I look at the engine, I thought prolly I can do this myself just like the suspension.

Any opinion for a first timer like me?

I am also looking at putting a b16a2 dual cam with 15k miles but the motor/transmission is like $3.2k.

Thanks!

Take you time and do it yourself. If you have money buy a hoist from kragen or autozone. they go for $150-200. Get yourself a Manual as well. Its not very hard. You can go ahead and label all the wiring so you wont get confused once you put everything back. $600 I think is a little to much I think as well. To bad you dont live here in socal you can pick them up anywere for under $400 even at HMO.

yeah..i knoe..someone from ht here's sellin d15b for $250 or somethin..

i inspected the engine and I think it's complete and imo not very complicated to put together....

and besides...giving away $1100 for the labor sucks big time. i mean i can get a decent rims and exhaust with that!

you can do the d15b swap with one other person in two days max

i put mine in in dead seriously like 3 hours max. Pulling is quite a bit harder. Drop the engine out on to a creeper and put the new one in using a creeper also, as this allows you to do the swap with a standard jack.

The b16 swap would be quite a bit harder. As it does involve changing the linkage and using mounts. Also would be more money because you would have to get all that shizzle from hasport.

I would just do the d15b it is not hard at all. Jim Truett on here knows alot more than i do if you have any more questions. I think he also sells remapped ecus for the d15, that would be very helpful for you.

i'll be the only doing the swap in the garage....

how about taking the current engine off? was it hard? With 3 hours, that's not putting everything right? like wiring harness, etc?

someone's selling an engine pulley(use for lifting engine) for $25 here in town.

man...im getting some courage here a little bit, thinking i might be able to pull this off and save myself $1100 for the labor cost.

yeah...the junkshop will deliver the d15b to my door also.

thanks guys!

thanks a lot guys! now i think im gonna do it...

im always skeptical about me doing this kind of stuff since i am not good doing hardware and stuff since i was a little. always screwing this and that....

but i just did my coilover suspension setup and it was a breeze. can't believe that!

this will be something way bigger than the suspension setup tho.

one last question? how about the timing belt and stuff? how hard to tune it up? Do i need to tune up any electronic gadget/computer or anything like that for the new engine to adapt to my USDM d16z6?

SUP.. GOING D15B ...if ur gonna do the swap ur self . i advice to have a manual belive me it helps ..ALOT any way i doing a swap my self d15b7 -d15b, the d15b swap is much cheaper as u dont need engine mounts, linkage, tranny, save ur self the bucks with that buy performance parts...''boost''

* it helps to have a buddy around , my brother know more than me so hes gonna guide me, just incase the engine falls on ur face or feet theres sum one there to call 911..lol it could happen .. good luck

B16 and swaps are easy as changing a tire. Just takes common sense.
