Default D16 stock sleeve turbo bore

Hi all,

I am building a D16A6 bottom end to handle some boost. I've got my choice of Carrillo rods or LS rods (use one set and sell the other), and some Arias 0.5mm overbore pistons. I'm trying to keep this as low budget as possible. I am questioning whether or not to use the overbore pistons in this block. I will eventually sleeve it, but that is a year or two down the road. My intention was to run 15-18psi on this block, but I don't want to worry about blowing it up. I guess I could be happy with 12-15psi so that I don't have to shop around for pistons again. However, I hear from some sources that boring the sleeves decreases strength exponentually. Can anyone tell me what I can expect out of the stock sleeves with a 0.5mm overbore in terms of reliability/strength. I am specifically looking for D16 examples/experience as it may differ from B-series applications. Thank you very much for reading/responding.

-Nathan

personally i would stay stock bore, and i did for my d16. But since you will be sleeving the .5 over would not matter for strength. But for the time being .5 over on stock sleeve should be fine for 12-15 psi, which depends on the turbo but id say 240-290whp ??

You should be fine either way... how many miles on the motor?

Don't know the mileage on the motor. I have a 91 STD. I got the motor from a guy who got it from a guy who had an 89 CRX. Regardless, the A6 is getting completely disassembled, hot tanked, and inspected before it's put back together.

BTW, I'll be using a block guard as well.

better to bore it over. But by the smallest amount needed. I thought I could do the same on my d16z6 and get away by getting stock size 75mm pistions and honing the block. But after measuring, my clearances would of been off with the stock size pistions. So i had to spend the time selling off my 75mm pistions for 75.5mm. You want to make sure the cyclinder is true and perfectly round, a bore will ensure that. If you have a older motor with alot of miles it would probably be better to bore it over .20

Oh btw i'm boostin 10psi dynoed at 210 /w 175ft torque
will be shootin for 15psi & 250-290hp when i get my EBC

My Y7 just needed a hone (deglaze), the piston and ring clearances were still in the high end of the spec. If the sleeves are in good condition they will hold the boost whether you decide to bore or not.

Good point. The bore may be a necessity, anyway.
Time to get the block to the engine builder to be disassembled and checked...
