what is the biggest (MOST SAFE) bore you would run for turbo??? discuss.....
i have a turbod built ls/vtec with 85mm darton sleeves. i cant run anything over 16psi without blowing the head gaskets(3 in 2 weeks) and i think its because its such a big bore. the block was step decked until i had the machine shop assemble it and they ******* resurfaced it...lol! anyways, i am trying to decide between getting the block o-ringed or just building up another block and sell this 85mm sleeved bare block so someone that is going with an all motor setup. tell me what you think.....
decisions, decisions, decisions.....
thanks for all the help in advance

yea, when you get up into the bigger bores like that there isnt much headgasket in between the cylinders. id sell that block and get another one built and bore it to 83mm.
around 84mm is the highest you can run without running into a lot of problems

85mm is probably the limit, tho that is pushing it.
im not saying it cant be done, because it is done all the time and even gone to 85.5, it just doesnt give you as thick of a sleeve

I hold onto gaskets just fine at 83mm. I've been preaching this for a while on here, what do you get out of 85mm? An extra 4 WHP at the same boost level? Not worth it at all.

would 83mm be a odd number for i haven't seen alot of 83mm bored motors.
Its either just 81 or 84. not that much inbetween.

I have a GE block that I picked up used at 81.5MM with some scarring and no cross hatch left on the walls, didn't feel comfortable at 84 or 84.5 so I went 83mm.

he makes 450whp on 91 and close to 600 on c16
hes at 84.5mm and has nothing but problems. he blows headgaskets all the time
he regurets going 84.5mm and he said he wish he would have just stayed at 81mm

Re: what is the biggest (riceball777)
from the looks of it..
anything above stock bore, you may or may not have issues.
So it depends on what the car owner wants to do. Take a risk with a bigger bore or play it safe and stay with stock bore.
either way, just upp the boost and you should be good..

Re: what is the biggest (integlspwr2k)
when i was in italy they install the sleeve and make them .05 over the deck of the block and the head fits over it. Takes a lot of machining and two sets of gaskets. don't know too much about it just thowing it out there.

Re: what is the biggest (lamacchina)
Reading this thread has now brought me to go to lower than my 84 idea. What more would I be making out of an 84 compared to an 81 or 83? I'd rather save some time and not be replacing gaskets left and right at the track or what not but....any input?
