Default Timing to ADV or Retarted for SMOG

hmm i forgot which is which now..

my car is running rich, i use the vafc2 to lower the richness, if the car is running a little rich....to help for smog, which timing should i adjust to? advance or Retart?

it's Advance i think..but to make sure...illl ask you guys agian thanx

why don't you just turn it back to stock timing...and lower fuel pressure

you know your timing has to be to spec or they fail you. i was off 3 degrees advanced and they failed me.

for cali its stock +/- 2 degrees for you to pass the timing part..so you can retard or advance a litttle bit and still be ok

actually its +/-1 for hondas/acuras or maybe thats just at test only but thats what the tech told me. for all other makes its +/-3

to reduce HC output you must retard the timing. When i was failing 5x over, i retarded the timing from 18 to 14 and my HC's dropped by 20% to around 420 ppm. (half of my cat was blown out, long story)

That tech is wrong. Factory specs is +/-2 degrees.

yes i know that factory spec allows +/-2 degrees but to pass smog they have stricter guidlines. maybe its just for my car because it so old but he told me honda and acuras had to be within 1 degree of the factory setting.

I doubt that's true. When I had my 91 DA the same rules applied to my car: +/-2 degrees. Sounds like he's talking out of his ***.

i went to the smog ref and i passed as long as it was +/- 2 degrees from stock which is 16. and thats at the SMOG REF STATION so whoever told you that was bullshitting you
