Punctured Radiator Issue
Original Thread: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1194334
Well, I called my insurance company since warranty said they won't cover it and I have a $500 deductible, but they were saying something about it being a comprehensive loss or something, not sure exactly what they meant by that and if it is indeed a comprehensive loss, the deductible will be only $100. I was wondering if any of you know if it is possible to have them purchase a Fluidyne Radiator from this board instead of purchasing a new oem radiator since they told me the price for a new oem radiator is $500 and I can get a Fluidyne radiator for $319 on the sponser section. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Ok, it is official. East Acura at Grand Rapids, MI is retarded and just totally suck ***! They first say that they are going to charge me $700 for replacing my oem radiator and now they say that they can't install a Fluidyne radiator in its place even though it would be cheaper and is of better quality, this is through my insurance company that is. I guess the only option is for me to have them install a new oem radiator. BLAH I wanted fluidyne!
Why are you even trying to go through your insurance or through the stealership?? Setting this through your insurance company will almost definitely raise your rates. Cough up the $300 cash and get the Fluidyne and install it yourself. Seriously, it's as easy as changing your oil.

I have to agree with this. I installed the fluidyne in my old G3 teg and it was a snap, even with a slightly bent rad. support.

I would love to, but the thing is, the dealership is 1.5 hours away. I can't drive the car back according to their mechanics and towing costs would be around $200-300. Insurance has just informed me that it is a comprehensive loss, so the deductible is only going to be $100. And I was told insurance rates should not go up since it has nothing to do with me being at fault. Thanks for the advice, we'll see what happens. By the way, East Acura is not a first service provider for State Farm so gonna have to move my car to a collision center somewhere else.

Pay the diagnostics charge and drive your car of the dealership lot to the nearest street and change yourself man. It's not rocket science...
No need to drive back 1.5 hours to do this install.

It's not like the insurance company is going to buy it for you. They're either going to cut you a check for the amount of the radiator+install or they'll ask you to pay up front and then foot the bill for it. I'd bet on the former.
That said, buy a __________ radiator, push the car into a parking lot, and change it out with a buddy. Shouldn't take you long at all.

Apparently, his car is already at the dealership, so he feels like he should have them do the work. F that....I'd buy my own radiator, take a couple friends to the dealership with me, and install that thing in the parking lot. Budda bing....done!

The Acura dealership said i have to either have it done there or get it from them today, if not they will charge me holding fees. So I called the insurance company and they said that since it wasn't an accident or anything that I did wrong, they will just charge me $100 deductible for comprehensive loss and have it fixed at a State Farm recommended shop. They took the car out of the damn stealership and took it to a the shop earlier today. They said I should probably be able to pick it up tomorrow. Thanks for the help guys... arg I still wanted to get a Fluidyne radiator installed, guess State Farm is kinda cheapo too. I believe they are using an aftermarket oem radiator from what I've been told over the phone. If the place was a bit closer I would have taken it back myself but since its 1.5 hours away, but oh well.
bad move i think. how bad was it leaking? you could have got the jb weld and did a temporary fix. ****, while the car is moving the air is circulating too.
i would have fixed it on the side of the road even, swap in a new radiator.
but whatever, what ever rocks yoru boat.
I guess i'm trying to say next time don't be so quick to take it to the dealership

Well the only reason I sent it to the dealership was because I thought warranty would cover it. But I was wrong, and since I live so far from an Acura dealership, I can't tow it back, I don't really know anyone in the Grand Rapids area, and I can't get a radiator fast enough to not have to pay holding charges. Had no other choice if I didn't want to pay $700 to get it fixed at the Acura dealership. Arg... I thought I would actually get to put the warranty to use for once before it becomes void next month. Oh well, a lesson learned.

going through insurance was a dumb idea because you're NOT getting an oem radiator. when my car needed a replacement radiator because of an accident, insurance replaced it with a oem replacement radiator made from performance radiator... CRAP radiator.

All you guys bitching about the dealership dry your ******* eyes. He towed it there for a good reason but it wasn't covered. They did their job by trying to sell him a new radiator. If he wants his insurance to cover to replacement that is his decision.

if you want to go to the dealership to buy and have them install a radiator, good for you because you're going to have some cash to dump. this guy came in here asking for advise and all the advise we gave, he basically ignored. i don't see anyone complaining, just suggesting what they would have done if they were in that position. it's because we understand that it is his decision, but that doesn't mean that it can't be considered a poor decision.

All I have to say is that I wouldn't let anyone have my car overnight specially some stealership or some MOM&POP local shop. I don't know but may be I'm just to overprotective with my stuff. I would have picked my car up the very same day or next with a couple of antifreeze/water bottles to make it back to my house and like everyone said "Do yourself, it doesn't need a rocket scientist"
OH, good luck on the outcome but if I was you, I wouldn't had gone thru insurance. No matter what they say to you, there is always charges.

Reading is so important, he took it to the dealership because he thought it was going to be covered under warranty. On a side not I had the same thing happen to my rad and got it fixed for free99(through the dealership), the attitude of this board towards dealership is terrible, I could name a dozen respected shops that I wouldn't let touch my car.
