First drive after partial rebuild..
Quick intro to what happened:
I purchased a 94 integ and realized shortly after the plug holes were all nearly filled with oil. After inspecting the valve cover gaskets, I noticed they were all aftermarket and felt like plastic - no seal at all. I don't know what possessed me to do this, but instead of replacing just the spark plug/valve cover gaskets, I replaced 90% of all the gaskets in the head including valve stem seals.
Well, now the car is back together and runs fine without oil in the plug holes anymore, but I still smell burning oil. It doesn't smell like it is mixed with exhaust, and I also noticed a few drops of oil under the car in the garage.
Question is, where are the more common places for oil to leak from? Everything on the head appear to be all good, no white smoke out of the tailpipe. I'm thinking the oil pan gasket, but I'd have to get under there again to make sure.
Side note - LS w/ 140k now gets 33mpg.. up from 25 or so
