I was pulling out of sams club today, and I noticed it was hard to get into 3rd. Driving a bit more, I realized that i had to use alot more pressure than usual to get into 2nd, 3rd, and 4th. Downshifting into 2nd above 35 is impossible, I decided not to put more pressure on it and see if it could be done.
Standing still, I can row through the gears easily, no problem, with the engine on. When I start to engage the clutch, the car will shudder for a second. I thought I wasn't giving it enough gas, but I tried it again at 2500 and it will shudder up there too.
So it will go into gear, but with some resistance. I drove it home, about 10 miles. Its 10 miles to the nearest dealer, which I can't get to till Thursday, but is a dealer that I trust, nor do I have the time to fix it cause I'm off at school...
I know my throwout bearing or my mainshaft bearing was making some noise earlier, but thats it. The car was in storage for 3 months, and I just put 300 miles on it this week while I was home.
Its only got 40,000 miles on it, I doubt its the clutch. I don't know if its the pressure plate or whatever, because I don't know what happens when your pressure plate decides to quit. But that shuddering at the start makes me wonder... And I don't have much experience with tranny issues. So more experienced tranny people, give me your thoughts please...

Come to think of it, my throwout bearing was making noise, I have a feeling its the pressure plate not engaging correctly... Any other suggestions?
i had the same problem with my first PY>... the spring in the clutch broke out of the little space.... and the throw out bearing had way to much play in it.

the weird thing is I haven't abused the clutch, and this clutch only has about 30k on it.
damn it, i never dropped a tranny before..
And I haven't felt any slip either...
I was pondering the spring on the clutch... When yours broke did it just snap or rattle around?
I DON'T even push the car that hard (lately)! Most miles are highway.. god damn it...
any good advice on dropping the tranny? i've heard people changing throwout bearings, main shaft bearings, and something else... and pressure plate and clutch...

Agreed, same thing happened to me and when I pulled my clutch all four spring were fairly loose and a piece of metal had sheared off of the disk and was rubbing against the rivets.
Sorry for the bad news but it sounds like clutch time to me. btw...my OEM clutch gave at about 45,000 miles.

shitty.
i just looked in the helms, and i've never done this before, and maybe if this was a dodge neon or something, i'd try it, but i'm not about to start dismantling all that on my itr and risk myself ******* it up... I'd rather help someone or watch it done before i do it.
looks like a trip to the dealer.. damn it..
I don't get it, this clutch only has 30k on it, and i bet about half of that is highway, and maybe 2 miles of it is auto x.
