Default Questions regarding boring out of b16 with GE sleeves...

I am curious.. I've read on this forum that Golden Eagle sleeves are so good, that I could safely bore out a B16 up to around 84.5mm. True?

Main question is this: if I get the block bored out to 84mm or 84.5mm seeing as to how it's originally 81mm, would I have to get some head work done? I've been told no by several people... so I guess I should say "should I get head work done so the combustion chamber better matches the bore?"

thanks,
-S

yes, the combustion chamber should be resized to 84mm's also.

No, sorry that is wrong. GE sleeves at 84mm will accomodate the factory coolant holes.

No need to modify the head at all. (cooling wise)

yeah cooling wise but iam talking about the 84mm cylinders with a 81mm not really in diameter. but peak in lenghth. that would create a lot higher compression. also the smaller combustion chamber in comparison wil create a non favorable air fuel mixture and a smaller quench area.

A smaller combustion area is more favorable because it increases compression ratio.

How does boring the cylinder from 81mm to 84mm increase length? Please explain yourself.

Why not go to 83mm bore to start? That way if you hurt a cylinder down the line, you don't have to resleeve again but can can get away with a simple bore. Use a Cometic 83mm bore head gasket and you can get away with no combustion chamber mods.

yes i know it create's a smaller combustion chamber in comparison to the 84mm cylinders. Wich raises the compression. But a smaller combustion chamber flows less air. look at the b16a in comparison to the gsr it flows 5.25% better than the gsr and notice than the gsr has a smaller 41'6cc combustion chamber and the b16a has a 42.7cc one.

WHAT????!@?!???!?

Ok, so now you're saying that because it has a smaller combustion area, it flows less air??

HAHAHHAHAHHAHHAH

Oh geez, hey look. Before I RIP into you like a red-headed step child, go do some serious reading about engines.

Learn how the combustion process is done, and what increasing bore does to your engine.

Then come back and tell me what you learned, and you can revise your posts.

I'm still waiting for a response from you (RAINFOREST).

Maybe you could clear this all up and explain yourself.
