Default Naturally Lowered??

I measured the ride height of my car from the ground to the fender lip. My car is a 98', 30K miles with stock suspension. It came out to be 22" in front and 22-1/4" in the rear.

Isn't it a lot lower than new?? Can someone with a relatively newer ITR run out to the garage and measure the ride heights for me? Thanks a lot!

Maybe the stock springs have taken too much abuse from the track and lost most of their flexibility?

I have a 98cw and was talking to a guy in a 2000-2001 fbp itr and my car isnt lowered and i was dam near looking up to him in his car. I think after a few years and miles it does tend to sag. Just look at a 94 or 95 ls. Them shyts looks lowered than my car. my car has 87k on the suspension.

Isn't 22 inches the lowest it can legally be?

Edit: Err, I think that's fromt he headlights.

That's a very unscientific way to measure the height of the car IMO. I'd suggest measuring from the center of the front wheel to the lip of the fender. Takes the variability of the tire sidewall from the equation and makes comparisons to other ITRs valid.

What do you guys think Spoon springs are? Spoon convinces owners of ITRs with over 100k miles to buy their coilovers. They then take the stock ITR springs with 100k miles on them, "re-balance" them, paint them black and stamp them with yellow Spoon logos.

Well in Illinois I think you are fine.

We don't have "ricer" laws in Illinois like they do in Cali.

Ill bet anybody any money that spoon cant convince me to spend $.02 on any of their over priced coilovers or springs.

Spoon coilovers must be made out of gold for that price. I like the springs though.

My new 2000 was definitely a lot higher than my 98 w/ 30k miles was. Before it was stolen, my 98 would always scrape on my driveway if I drove over it straight on. (pavement dropped off about 5") When I got my 2000, I didn't even have to be carefull about it. It wasn't even close. I always wondered if this was an age issue, or a 98->2000 issue.

Reason I brought this up is that, I plan to install a set of coilovers for my car next weekend. I looked at the recommended ride height for DC2R from the product guide (for competition use), it says 590mm from ground to fender lip. 590mm = 23.2", which is HIGHER than my stock height. I was confused... but now I believe that the stock springs are the problems.

did you take into account worn or different size tires? that could be the difference right there...

my car is higher on the drivers side when i am out. but, i got my car corner weighted with me in the drivers seat (i'm kinda fat), so when i get out the car rises up a bit. doh!

Are you sure you measured that right because the diameter of a 15" rim with 195-55 tires is ~23". You must have no wheel well gap at all. I just measured my car from the ground to the top of the fender and it came out to 24"-front and 24 1/4"-rear and I'm lowered on Eibach Pro-kit springs (1.3"). It's hard to believe that your car can be that low on stock suspension.

Hi all, first I have to give myself a couple because the measuring tape that I used was like from 20+ years ago with some funny inch unit. I measured it again with my friend's tape, it came out to be ~24-1/4". Sorry about the confusion!

But my car is still quite a bit lower than a new ITR because I made a comparison during the weekend......

to have an accurate comparison you should measure from the bottom of the wheel
itself because that is the lowest fixed non-flexible point on the car.

I measured mine this weekend before i put my coilovers on. about 24.5" from ground to fender before, 23.25" after. mine is an 01 with 16k and its the yellow one, i hear they are lower than the black ones, but CW are the lowest of them all.
