Spark Plug Shot out and dented hood
yeah.
Well spark plug came loose one day so I tightened it, I drove it once then put it away hoping to replace the plug and check for problems.. it was fine no blow by noise so this morning my truck was having problems and I was going to be late for work so I drove the honda. Well while im driving i hear a noise followed by alot more noise I pull over thinking my lip came off or something and was flapping around or maybe i was having an axel problem, I get out everything is cool, I pop the hood and the plug wire was shredded and the spark plug was sitting inside the plug hole ( just sitting there).. and I had a huge dent on my hood..
The spark plug looks intact with no damage so thats good, but im going to take the head off anyway ... I guess I am going to have to heli-coil the hole.. Im going to send this out since i spent alot of money with dpr on this head and i dont want to **** it up.
When I heli-coil, will i need to run a different size spark plug? and will it handle the compression ok? what if i run the compression @ 11.5 will it still be kosher? thanks..
Cliff Notes .. spark plug came loose, shot out, made dent. I think plug hole threads are stripped. Plan on Heli-Coil, Will a Heli-Coil Hold up ok? And can I run the same size spark plug?

if DPR did that head call them up. they have enough of a reputation that they should take care of it for you. well... one would hope at least.
plus, if someone else does the work on it they may not want anything to do with it after that.

yeah im gonna talk to Dan, but thing is Im in Norcal, whenever and for me to send stuff to him takes a long time to get it back.. and im not sure what is wrong with my truck so i need transportation here
.. ill see what it looks like when i get the head off then take the best route from there

lol holy **** thats kinda of funny, except not really, did you have indications before that the spark plug hole wass beggining to strip out?
yeah it was loose but it seamed to tighten with good feeling to it.. i never over torqued it or anything.. maybe a long time ago when i did a compression test the tester messed up the threads or something
The exact same thing pretty much happened to my friends sisters neon. She called us saying she was on the side of the freeway, so i drove him and i down there and the spark plug was just sitting there on top of the valve cover and there was a big *** dent in the hood. Not an expert on that one, but i think it had something to do with her coil?

Impossible. If the coil died, the car would die. Spark plugs can only shoot out if they aren't tight enough in their fitting.

That sux, but if a helicoil is done right it will be stronger than the original aluminum alloy. You should be fine after the repair, but while you have it apart check the other plug threads.

yeah i will, the head was just built into a work of art from DPR and there isnt many miles since then so im not worried about anything else being worn, but i plan to do a valve adjustment since its apart..

goodluck on the fix</TD></TR></TABLE>
I know, to my surprise i wasnt as upset as i should have been. Its one of those "your kidding right?"
Im just wondering if i would have that dent if i had a plug wire cover on at the time.. maybe the carbon kevlar bulletproof vest cover

Probably not. That's what they're there for.

Did DPR mod your head then give you back your original head after building it up, or do they swap them? If they do a swap, you may have ended up with someone else's head that had a nearly stripped hole in it... If so it matters, if not, be more careful installing sparkplugs!

no he modded my head and gave it back to me, it wasnt like a core situation.. i think the last time we ran a compression test the threads got messed up
