Default Blown spark plug wire

Alright here's the deal:

For a little over a week now, one of my spark plug wires was starting to get loose. At the end of the week it wouldn't even 'snap' on the plug. It was just hanging there. I was kinda busy and also I didn't drive it a lot the past few weeks so I didn't get new spark plug wires yet. I was supposed to Friday but things came up so I decided to do it next Monday.

Anyways, I went to a friends house today (literaly a minute away). Everthing was fine, but when I was coming back I just heard a big 'boom' and then the sound of 3 cylinders running. Turned it off, went on the side of the road and popped the hood. The wire was out of the chamber, the tip was blown off and I found the spark plug on the road.

Here's my question: Can this have damaged anything else in the engine? The spark plug popped out of the engine so i'm guessing something detonated. The spark plug still has it's thread though so that's a good sign. I just have a hard time figuring how it popped out. As far as I know it was well screwed in.

I'm hoping I just need to change my wires and my spark plug and everything will be fine.

it was probably loose which was more than likely causing your misfire and the compression of the cylinder just helped it come out... i would check the threads in the head... run a plug in there when the engine is cold with just an extention and your hand and make sure it threads easily... if it does then just put another one in and get some new wires and see what happens

Sounds like the actual spark plug was loose. The wire should be good if it was still sparking. Try to thread it in there by hand with an extention and see if its ok.
If it is then try your old wires and see if it click onto the plug.

The wire was blown into pieces so I highly doubt it still works. I'm almost 100% sure the threading is intact. So if the thread is fine everything should technically be ok? Like the pistons, injectors, etc.?

btw thanks for the info so far.
