Technical Question: Ignition timing of EG Civics; How is it done?
I did a quick search, but I didn't find what I was looking for.
Can anybody tell me if 5G civics have ECU controlled ignition timing?
I suspect that the ignition timing is purely governed by RPM and vacuum. This is mechanically fixed.
I know on newer cars, that are distributorless, the ECU controls the ignition timing.
However, I keep reading references about ignition tables in 5G civic ECUs.
What are they refering to? Do the ECU have some control over how much vacuum there mechanical distributor sees, therefore indirectly control ignition advance/retard?

The final ignition timing is given by the mechanical position of the distributor, vacuum, and a slight electronic adjustement performed by the ECU. Correct me if wrong.

Ok good. You confirmed that that the ECU does have some ability to adjust timing.
Do you know how though?
Does the ECU indirectly control the ignition timing by altering how much vacuum the distributor sees?
Does anyone know?
