Default Ignition Timing

By manually rotating the distributor, is the TOTAL ignition timing (initial + advance) affected? Or is it maintained at a certain degree by the ECU?
TIA

If you advance/retard the distributor X*, you are advancing/retarding the whole ignition map by X*.
