1. you have no idea how things work in japan
2. you cant not just walk into any junkyard like here in the states
3. junkyards in japan already service major export companies for top dollar, why would they deal with a "gaijin" that just walks in?? they dont and you will get the normal blank stare
4. and no shipping company in japan will ship it out because unless you rent a container or have an outside international company do the pick up your stuck..let alone the cost of shipping it which is in the thousands when you dont have any container and dont forget the export tax..

There are used parts stores is japan. You can walk in get used parts cheap and leave. But, since you got friends there already, just have them get want you want and have them ship it to you.

Just get all the little ****, cluster, seats, console, and all your other jdm crap. Your friend in the navy can send it back USPS, you might even be able to do the motor if you break it down first.

Thank You Jesus.
99.99999% of all the exporter/junkyards have contracts with the aussies, UAE, Dubai, whoever to part out all of their ****, so it's not like you have totalled STi's or Type Rs just sitting outside waiting to be picked apart.
You could find about a bazillion corollas.
If you have Japanese friends, just have them search and buy **** for you on Yahoo Auctions, it's going to be 100000x easier than going to the yards, of which very few are near public transportation.

Shipping an engine back from japan is not going to be fun. BUT..... If your friend is in the service then it can be alot eaiser. I know people that have brought back motors from japan when their tour was over. A friend of mine was stationed in okanowa(wrong spelling i know) and brought back an rb26. So try that first.

True dat,
If his tour is ending he can just throw it in his house hold goods.
