10pt Cage install in my CRX...need some tips...
Were getting ready to fab in our 10pt cage setup into my 91 CRX, but I'm not so excitted about getting those bars through the dash.
I want to keep as much stock parts there, yet still be NHRA legal (duh).
Just wondering if there are any "easy" ways of routing those pipes through the dash.

None that I've seen.
Question, where are the last 2 points? I honestly just don't know.
One's I can think of -
2 Main Roll Hope
2 Rear Bracing
2 Main front runners, the one's through the dash
2 From front runners, via door bars, to front shock towers.
Where are the last 2?

2 from mid-way up main hoop towards center of the car
As far as tips go... if you need tips to fabricate a roll cage you probably shouldn't be installing one.
Take the dash out, fit up and weld in cage, cut out holes in dash to reinstall.

do you mean the a-pillar tubes or the cross peice that is under the dash connecting both of them together (not in pic)?
Either way the dash is gunna have to come off in order to get a nice result.
My suggesting is to measure the dash angle relative to the a-pillar, cut a peice of tubing at that angle. Then take the tube that you cut, line it up on the dash and trace around it. Then when you have the dash off you know exactly what needs to come off.

P.S. Ive been looking at roll-cages for some time now, and never got the way you can label a cage as a "6-point", 12-point", etc... is it just how many corners there are facing outwards? or am I completely lost?

Thanks. Yeah, because the whole dash has to come out, i might just wait until next season to complete the cage. I can put in the 6pt no problem, but getting those front bars in would definetly take some time.
The cage is labled by a "6pt" or a "10pt"...ect, by how many bars are attached to the foor. In the previous pic of the 10pt, there are 10 bars all welded to the floor.

Count how many points intersect with the chassis.

Definetly 10s. How far into the 10s, I'm not really sure of...but of course, the quicker the better. However, I'm mainly concerned about trapping over 135. Over 135, they require the full 10pt.

The car currently sits in peices. I can only hope to have it together in time for race day.

is there anyway to modify the horizontal bar that goes through the main hoop so that ppl can still get in the back seat? like a swing out or some of the pin/hinge systems like the one adictionbass uses?

I don't think so. The side bars can swing out, but that won't help getting into the back seats. The middle bar, and main hoop need to be welded...thus, no beuno.

oh well, looks like my passengers get to do the gymnastic flex routine to get into the backseat, lol
I'm not sure it would be NHRA legal if you hinged that piece in the main hoop because of lateral support but check up on that. Ive seen the door bar hinged in a couple of cars. I hepled a friend do it in an MKIV a couple years back but heavent seen it much since then. I'd rather be safe then worry about passengers in a 10 second car. Just my.02.

sorry to point out the obvious, but thats a bad idea.
you would feel pretty bad I'm sure if you were in an accident with people in the back seat and a roll bar in your car. . .

honestly, that doesnt sound like a good idea either. A cage is meant to protect the front passenger(s) only.

oh well, **** it... one passenger, lol
now, can you modify the rear downtubes so they mount to the rear shock towers... but pass through the rear plastic panels instead of the seats?

Thats how my freind has his 6pt cage setup in his 1st gen talon...so It must be legal. He took a class on how to build cages, and they covered the NHRA specs...so I'm fairly sure it is.
