Default ICE-MAN CAI

Just bought one on a liquidation sale. $124, its for a color not made anymore, white, but I can just paint it. Anyone use the ICE-MAN CAI with their Lude? I have heard its better than the AEM, but the AEM is better looking. Hows the install going to be?

dont know about performance wise... but i got the AEM... feel alittle faster... but i like the sound tho... anyway... the installation was easy.... well had to remove the right front tire... but beside that it was very simple... oh make sure you reset your ecu... (remove the radio or clock fuse under the hood fusebox and put it back a few minute or so later... and make sure you have your anti-theft codes such a hassle if you dont ^__^) goodluck man

Cool, thanks for the reply. I have a couple of freinds to help me, so it should go over very smoothly.

One tip: Don't rely on looks, you're not making a show car, right? Rely on performance. Ice-man and AEM cai products are by far the leader in performance intakes. AEM's intakes are well designed, which produces highest horse power an intake can make, however you do lose in low-end ponies. Ice-man, even w/o the well-thought out design of AEM, started to use plastic-type piping, which is brilliant! Does NOT conduct heat which in turn does NOT warm air going into t/b. Too lazy to explain... AEM also coats there piping with high temp paint, which produces the same idea of Ice-man's intakes.

Conclusion, you will notice a louder engine, more horse power in high RPM's, and some decreased performance in low-end - Well worth the $124...

I'd really like to do an intake test sometime on a 4th gen VTEC. I have an AEM CAI personally, but this is not the first time I've heard that ICEMAN makes more power. 99% of the time when you hear people say AEM is "the best" it is just because of hear-say and the way it looks....when someone says they know an ICEMAN performs better, you need to take them more seriously, because they probably have done/seen some testing.

two questions about the iceman:

#1 - how large is the opening at the TB? does it go over the TB? would it fit a 70mm TB?

#2 - the prelude iceman doesn't require cutting. this means that the tube bottleknecks to fit through the hole in the fender. isn't this area smaller then the TB?

That's why the AEM produces more power, for our cars at least. Plus, it's smoother on the inside, no rough edges or bumps like the plastic has on the Iceman.

Yea, what I have heard is that the AEM will conduct heat alot faster than the Ice-Man, so thats why the Ice-Man was reccomended. I would bet the gains are about the same on both intakes though, probably no noticable differance between the two.

check out the thread about it on PO.com. the iceman is about 5mm thick, and goes INSIDE the TB!! what a waste

Aluminum does conduct heat faster, but it also dissipates heat faster. Plastic holds heat longer. Thats why when you pop the hood the aluminum AEM feels warm and the Iceman feels cooler. They have opposite conductive properties. Plastic has a much lower thermal conductivity. Thermodynamics 101 folks.

if anyones worried about the aluminum conducting heat faster on the AEM why don't you just get one of those wraps. My friend has one on his ITR, and after a run, you can put your finger under there and it's actually a little cooler/about the same as room temp
