help me pick a coilover system please
I'm debating on which of the following 3 coilover system to get for my 2001 base prelude.
1. Tein SS - $950
2. Mugen low down - $1,300
3. Buddy Club Racing spec - $1,565
My prelude is my daily driver and I do intend on autocrossing the whole season and maybe once or twice visit the track. Keep in mind that if you have heard any horror stories with any of these systems (I'm guessing I'm going to hear a lot of the Tein's locking up) please let me know. Thanks. Btw, I'm going to order these tomorrow.

if you got money... go for the tanabe suspec... i think it's suspec... something like that... 1500 this guy got it for his civic told me it's the best... ride pretty good too...
I've always heard the Tanabe's suck, I think Malken over at www.preludeonline.com had them and thought they were no good. I'd say the Mugen would probably be the most comfortable of the three. I didn't know Buddy Club made anything for the BB6? If your considering Teins, why not the HA instead of the SS? I mean if your planning on tracking the car I think the HA would be better. The whole Tein rusting thing could probably be prevented if you can keep them out of the sald or keep them cleaned and anit-seized.
I have Tein HA and love them, I think they were the best $1300 I could have spent on my car. It's really amazing how good they are.
So anyways, when it came down to it, I'd probably be deciding between the Mugen/Showa and the Tein HA. I'd probably go for the HA just because of the height/dampening adjustability, I mean you are planning on heading to the track.

Mugens would obviously be a good choice. Do they make them for 4Gs by any chance.

The problem with the Tanabe Sustec coilovers is that, on a 5th gen, even at the highest suspension setting, the car is so low that it is almost undrivable on public roads. This is the problem that Malken00 from the other board had...
Personaly, I think if you want height and dampening adjustable coilovers, go with Ground Controls and Koni Yellows. This combo is the most flexible and versitile, and it is at least $200-$300 cheaper than any other option mentioned here...

The Tein SS are just like the HA but I think the spring rates are lower. They have the height and dampening adjustability as the HA. The thing with Mugen is I can't see why I am going to spend $1,300 for something that doesn't adjust anything...can you, other than ride quality? As for the Buddy club, it comes with pillow mounts and I know that makes the ride even harsher and squeeky too. I thought about going with the GC and Koni yellows but I think I'm going to go with a true race suspension. Any other inputs? I can't decide for crap...I'm so bad at this...I'm like a girl...sigh
I don't understand your rationale. How are GCs and Konis not a "true race suspension"?
You can specify GCs with any custom spring rate you want, and you can get Konis revalved to any dampening range you want. You can have more options with the GC and Koni setup all for a lot cheaper than the less versitile imported pre-assembled suspension kits...

Oh okay, I was thinking that the SS didn't have dampening adjustment. Still, why not go for the HA? They are totally streetable, you won't have to worry abotu a bone-jarring ride, unless that's what you want, plus you can order them with whatever rate you want, might take a little longer that way though. I say Tein, they are so awesome, I love mine. You should order them from Walee at www.machiii.net he is great to deal with.
I agree with you on the Mugen though, I don't think they are worth $1300, that and I don't think they're low enough. Well, let us know what you end up getting.

Ok, maybe I'm wrong for saying that...so is the GC and Koni combo that much better? I mean, so why do these systems exist and why do people buy Teins for example? Someone explain to me with a dense head...Thank you.
Order the Teins from Walee? I dealt with him before when I had to buy my Illuminas for my Si. He gave me an awesome price. But I think I'm just going to stick with the 3 stores that I've been talking to for this time since one is close to Pittsburgh so if I need to go kill some one (just kidding), it's a lot easier and less gas...

I'm not sure if Mugen is what you want. Its not very agressive. But very streetable and thats why they are pretty good. But if you are going to go competitive then you prolly gonna end up sellin them.
I wanted something that doesnt rust and holds up in harsh weather. Would be GC/KONI, Aragosta or Progress ( have yet to see someone with it tho).
But my question is has anyone tried the TANABE coilovers? and What are they made of?

Mugen showa for $1,300 can bought from King or IPSRacing.
I just called the store that I'm buying the coils from and the guy is out of the store...and he's not picking up his cell phone so I'll have to wait. Right now...hehehe...I am just deciding between the buddy club and tein. But I'm leaning towards the Teins because there's support for them now here in the states.

I wished I had 3 cars.
I should change my Sig...what happened is that I had the DX first and just got tired of it because I actually learned how to drive with that car and it was an auto. So then I got the Si, I was content and I was modding it...but then it got hit twice while it was parked and the second time was really bad because the whole rear right end had to be rewelded so I didn't feel like it was the original car I bought and I got rid of it. But yes I know I changed 3 cars in 2 years. That's just ridiculous...

hachiroku, AJ Racing can get them for you. (604) 279-0329, ask Ben.
I will get pics up when I get it installed but it won't be at least after 1-2 races with stock suspensions. But I will take pics when the coilovers get here...can't wait.
