Default Help!!!!Wheel studs snapped

I was driving the other day, as i merged onto the highway ( i was driving normal, not ripping it) the car started to shake violently. I thought it was my axel so i got of the expressway and went about 20 the rest of the way home. when i got there 3/4 wheel studs was snapped of the driverside front tire. WTF happened..I know they were torqued down...Anyone what could have caused this

Just a couple of days ago, there was a cherokee or something driving on 219 around here, drivers side wheel snapped completely the **** off, rolled into oncoming traffic, up into some chick's windshield, and killed her. Scary ****.

only way that could happen if it wasnt torqued down....but you said it was torqued down, must be a broken torque wrench?

I have had that SICK JOKE played on me before. It was on my old s10. This guy loosened my left rear wheel and I was driving and the wheel came off. Luckily I was only going like 10 mph. I didn't even make it a block away from where i was parked. Too bad the guy bragged about it too much!!!

yah, I would also say the torque wrench was fugged. Rust could have fucked them up. uhhhh.... like some people said above, someone loosening them. ALSO what could have happend is that for some reason your studs where cross threaded, and your torqued your lug on, it was on tight, but not fully down on the rim. woo, lucky you didnt get hurt.

same happened to me, my wheel was holding on with 1 stud as I rolled back to the shop with my flashers on going 5mph and going into incoming traffic to get across the street.

i doubt they were loosened. maybe tighten too much or you **** with your wheels too much always changing wheels you know basically putting a lot of stress on them. you may either just get the studs replaced, or need a new hub like me since my hub holes were loose. and I also needed a wheel bearing. anyways bottom line its gonna cost you up the ***

That is the ghetto way to change the stud but I guess it works, especially if you're only going to do one and not all four.

So 3 out of 4 lugs were gone...you're lucky. Next time something goes breaks, you might think about stopping to see what the problem is, instead of crossing your fingers and driving slow. That usually just makes the problem worse anyway.

by the way check the holes in your rim, the studs could came loose and fucked up the wholes. if its no longer a perfect circle, then the hole can get bigger over time and your wheel can fly off while driving.
