Default Requesting some advice.

Okay, I apologize if this is in the wrong forum (since it's not technical really..) but in any case here goes:

I'm currently looking to purchase a 1992 prelude SR. I can't really spend more than 6000$ (CAD) on it. I'm selling my motorcycle: BMW F650 CS to buy one. The bike is just too impractical here in canada with the winters and all, I need a car so I have year round rollage.

The ones I have found all have 150,000 - 200,000 kilometers of mileage on them. Is this mileage too high do you think? or should the car still be good for say another 100,000? I want to slowly work on it and upgrade it here and there with body mods and engine mods.

Another question I have is, does the 1992 prelude SR come with a v-tech engine? And does anyone know what the engine power stats are on the '92 prelude SR?

(I should also mention that it seems that the model names were slightly different for the canadian preludes vs the u.s. preludes. I believe the SR is equivelant to the S-vtech or..SV or maybe the Si if that has the v-tech engine in it? I'm not sure, if anyone can tell me exactly WHAT the stats are for a '92 canadian honda prelude SR are I'd much appreciate it! Thanks!

I live in the States and I have never heard of SR.

We have 3 kinds here, (years 92-96)

Prelude S - 2.2L SOHC non-VTEC
Prelude Si - 2.3L DOHC non-VTEC
Prelude VTEC - 2.2L DOHC VTEC

On my 92 Si, I had 225k miles, still ran hard, had no problems with it

Just keep shopping around. Unfortunately, the prelude is uncommon enough that it is not always easy to find one worth buying in your immediate area. Time may be the only way to find one unless you are cool with traveling to pick up a car.

Try looking at kbb.com to get an estimate of what you should expect to be paying, and how much a car would cost with the mileage you want. Don't settle on an extremely high mileage car unless you are prepared to replace a lot of things or only have the car last you a short while.

I ended up finding a 93 vtec model with 115,000 on it in absolutely immaculate condition. I paid 5900 usd for it, which is actually slightly more than it is worth.

The only thing that I am not certain about is the exchange rate. I hope my info is useful.

The prelude S has an f22a1 .................135 hp and 142 lb/ft ( SOHC)
Si or Sr(can) h23a1...........160 hp and 156 lb/ft (non vtec)
vtec or SRV(can) h22a1.....190 hp and 158 lb/ft (vtec)

4th gens didnt get h22 until 94 so your prelude has the h23a1...h23's really dont like to be pushed hard after 200k , seen alot with spun bearings...but if it was well taking care of...

So would most suggest that I hunt for a '94+ prelude? I'm finding mostly 92's, within my price range. And I know this is the wrong forum but the integra and prelude are related, how does the integra compare to the prelude? Could anyone suggest what year of integra maybe I should look for within a 1-6000$ price range?

Let's say I ended up with a prelude in good condition with a h23a1 engine in it. What sort of performance mods could I do to it to bring it up to about 200hp? And could someone throw me a ballpark cost?

The h22 came to the us for the 93, not 94. Japan had it even earlier than that. I don't know about canada, though.

Your gonna need some pretty beefy mods to get it up to 200WHP, look to spend 4-5 grand for an all motor setup, or about the same for a F/I with some good tuning.

look at the bottom of the engine block and you'll see an engine code engraved in it....if it has H22 in it, it has vtec or you'll see VTEC in large letters on the top of the head
