Default bent shifter cables on 89' 2.0Si

I think I have a bent shift cable. I just replaced the motor and had to replace a heater hose and I noticed from then on 3rd gear will grind on the up-shift and down-shift. The most I noticed was the shifter cable was SLIGHTLY bent because I ran the heater hose UNDER the cables by accident. I know what I did wrong, I just need to know if a bent shift cable will cause the gears to clash. It seems logical to me because 3rd gear is the loosest point on the cable. If its bent, then the cable can not retracted all the way causing the shifter to bind up almost like when you miss a gear with rod shifters and grind because of the position it was angled. What do you guys think?
