Default shift cable

i was driving the other day and i slammed my car into 3rd gear really hard....now i think my shift cable got stretched and when ever i put my car into 1st 3rd and 5th it goes into gear but i can push futher forward than normal and it is a little harder to place in to those gears....2nd 4th and reverse are fine
went to honda the price of a new shift cable it's $320

Could i fix the cable itself or could it be another problem...?

Did you check your shifter console to see if that was damaged? You should be able to find shift cables for $200.

the cable its self can not be stretched, no. check the tranny, top side where the cables actually connect, and check the cable for it being aligned all the way on the rubber washer, or a missing cotter would allow it to move, this used to happen to me plenty on hard 3rd shifts due to small cotter pins the ring on the shifter could slide over, leaving the washer intact.

you can pick up new cotter pins, they're dirt cheap.

if you are missing a cottor pin then replace it, straighten up the cable/ringend and go see how hard you can hit third!

It sounds like you popped off one of the large e-clips that secure the shift cables to a bracket up by the transmission. Check that.
