Default Has anyone ever modified a stock muffler to work with custom exhaust?

What I'm asking is has anyone ever cracked open their stock muffler, taken the innards out and reinsert a magnaflow or something inside? I'm thinking I can take a stock GSR muffler, take out the crap inside and put in a resonater with a bunch of the fiberglass filler around it and get it welded onto my exhaust. I'm trying to acheive at least a stock look if not reduce some of the sound as well. Would it help reduce the sound if I put a bunch of the filler around it? I know someone around here has done something like this before.

get a big magnaflow oval and paint it and dont put a tip on it, it will look real close to stock. obviously someone who knows hondas will be able to point out its not factory but there average person wouldnt.

I thought about that but do you think adding filler around something like that inside the stock muffler housing would quiet it down a little. The police in my area are VERY **** and I routinely have to drive past the main police station. They love to pass out tickets for exhaust and ride height. In the city my parents live in, they will try to impound your car if you are below the ride height citing it as an unsafe hazard. I don't have to worry about that but I don't want to get fix it's because some cop gets nosy and looks at my muffler. Technically in my state any exhaust other than stock is illegal. Even the Meinke special.

well a magnaflow wont be quiet like stock.... you just said you wanted it to look stock hehe, and no i dont think adding fiberglass will really help quiet it down.. you might want to look into a chambered muffler then...

Sound is not a big deal. As quiet as possible is the best. The thing I'm worried about is one of the cops getting a wild hair up his *** and seeing I don't have a stock muffler mounted on there. If it's huge and bulky they'll assume I'm stock, if not then I get a ticket. Trust me it's crazy around here, my buddy got pulled for having an ITR exhaust on his civic because the cop saw the polished tip. Bump it, maybe I'll get the magnaflow and put a stock looking tip on there.

What exactly did you put inside the stocker? Was it very difficult to do?

a 2.5" offset magnaflow muffler. it wasn't that difficult. I basically just got an idea of what I wanted it to look like in the end and cut away at it and welded it till I got it looking how I wanted.

or you could just keep the stock muffler and get a y pipe welded in front of the rr wheel. when the end that exits in front of the rr wheel is bolted up with the block plate it will force exhaust fumes to run through the regular mufler, now with block plate not in place exhaust fumes exit through spot where block plate originally is placed. when its time to race unbolt block plate type of open header, then with the block plate in place you run through the stock muffler. of course the block plate will not totally seal you may have a tiny leak. but to each their own just a thought i thought i would share good day

yea well to each their own, if you can't handle it dont do it it's plain and simple. throw on some bolts with a ratchet and your done a small piece of metal can be held by a small rag prior to removing or also using gloves and if it was that hot everything will melt lol.
