just running some ls ideas around and have some questions.
ok i have a 2000 integra ls. it has an auto tranny that i plan on building up this summer. now i planned on just turboing it, because i heard vtec doesn't like turbos. i have done some searching and reading (thats right i know how to search lol). so we all know money doesn't grow on trees and i'm in college. i was thinking a vtec head swap would be a lot cheaper now. then down the road when i get money saved up i could turbo it later. i also thought it would be nice to raise the redline to 9k. i also heard that gsr and b16 heads are a horse a piece for the vtec swap.
my questions are: is there any problems with turboing a vtec engine? what are the pros and cons to the b16 and gsr? what is all needed to make sure my engine won't blow up on me with a 9k redline? do i need to reflash the ecu to change the auto shift points or is there another way? does a turbo benefit a lot from vtec?
also, 9k redline i know i need stiffer springs, and i planned on doing ss valves and new retainers. i am just not sure what else needs to be done to a b18 to be able to handle those rpms. i am also new to automatics, since this is my first, how do you change teh wot shift points to accomodate for the engine being built to handle higher rpms?
and for the head swap all i need is a head, vtec sylenoid, ecu, and intake manifold? correct

ok rather than ask ask ask, why not look around the FI forum and see how many people are running around with turbo'd vtec engines?
hope you have a lot of money to sink into that auto tranny and never see it again.
you'd be better off spending that money on a 5 speed conversion.
raise your redline to 9k IF you are making power there. otherwise it's pointless (unless you're trying to land back into your powerband when shifting, but if you're building it, build it.)
as for your shift points, I don't know.

i spent a lot of time reading in the forums. from what i read it seems to be ok to turbo a vtec, but i heard that vtec doesn't like turbos. so i just wanted to clarify and make sure. also, yes i do plan on building it when i do the head swap. the auto tranny was not a question also. i AM going to build that. i don't care if you think its pointless or not. i just thought that might be something that might help you guys better answer my questions.
Your biggest problem will probably be turboing the automatic. Be prepared to buy new trannies...
I read that, you will build it... but I don't know of aftermarket support for honda auto trannies...

and also be prepared to smoke other turboed hondas of relatively same hp... if the tranny holds that is...
the auto tranny is better for turbo, as your foot never leaves the gas

that is actually one of the main reasons i'm keeping it auto. you don't have that lag in between shifts. also i have a company in town that builds race trannies and they will be building my auto tranny.
thx for your input on the tranny, but can i get some input on the questions.

I don't mean to be a *** or anything but you still need to figure out alot of things before you go and build a motor. Here's a lil hint if you dont want to blow your motor. Hone, hot tank, sleeves, block guard, griddle, forge pistons, APR bolts, and a few other steps. Find out more about building before you build, Good luck.

here we go again

please...dont turbo your AT teg.....please....
The only way its going to save lag between shifts is if you have a Cheetah 3spd shifter and 500whp.......why did you buy a AT if you wanted to race it?
The only reason people say vtech is not good with turbo is because people(morons) boost their GSR's to 17psi and don't understand that the compression is to high for that kind of power on a stock internal block....6-8psi on a stock GSR is fine....10psi on a LS is fine.....TURBO GSR's can be VERY nice if they are built correctly
I actually dont know why im wasting my time typing this...SEARCH!!!!!!!!!!!!
one more thing.....There is NOTHING wrong with boosting a LS...believe me....search that too
