Default Help :: Starting a newly installed Engine.

I just installed a new z6 in my hatchback and having problems starting it up. Anyone have any tips going about this? Some detailed directions would be great. I did a search but there wasn't much detailed information.

Things I've checked:
- the spark plug wire sparks
- hoses
- fuses
- wiring

Any help will be greatly appreciated

does the engine smell like fuel after you try to start it? (ie, are the injectors spraying?) Is your fuel pump kicking on? are you sure your timing is correct?

The engine is cranking, but it won't turn over. It does smell like fuel. As far as timing goes, this engine was removed from a running civic 3-4 months ago. It started right up back then, but it has just been sitting for the past 3-4 months. As for the plugs, everything is plugged in. I checked for spark by putting the spark plug wire next to a bolt and yes it sparked.

The spark plug wires are right. As far as ground, how many are there? One on the valve cover, tranny, and to the battery. those are the one ones i know of or can think of

Anyone have any more ideas? Post it here or IM me on aim "oxsleeperxo" Your help will be greatly appreciated.

I mis-used the word turning over in my previous post. The engine is turning over, but it's not starting. It seems like it wants to start but just wont.

you should check your timing... fuel filter... uhhhhhh... trying pumping the gas pedal while starting... haha that worked for my friends 4runner after it was sitting for months... i'd do the pumping thing last though...

I would start with the basics of making sure it has fuel and spark and go from there.

The ground near the thermostat looks fine. I took it off and sanded it to make sure there's a good connection. Thanks though. Any more suggestions

i would pull the plugs, check see if they smell like gas, Is there any kind of putter, or anything, even if you have the spark plugs wrong, you should get like a back fire or something. is it throwing any codes? give us the whole story. from start to finish. then we'll help somemore.
