Default Changing a head Gasket

Okay guys, I am thinking of trying to swap heads gaskets myself on my girl friends 94 CX hatch. I have not done this before and was wondering what all is involved. My Helms manual will be here by the time I perform the swap but thought you guys could give some helpfull insight on what is involved. Thanks

basiclly you take off the head stud bolts and the timing belt. you have a tensioner pully you have to losten to take of the timing belt first. Then reverse the process. and remember to have the head gasket on the side saying up facing up.

Don't forget to investigate WHY the head gasket blew.

If the car overheated and the head warped, that'll blow the gasket. Putting a new gasket on won't help if the head is still warped.

Okay guys here is the story. My girl just got the car and it over heated baddly, and we had a mechanic look at it, that she works with. He took off the radiator cap and started it and it blew anti-freeze out of the radiator, then he told us it was the head gasket. He also said that although it appeared that the head gasket is out it was probably not the orginal problem. When cleaning the car after she brought it home I home a used thermostat under the seat, I wonder if the thermostat went out and they didnt get it changed fast enough and it caused the head gasket to go out. What do you guys think????

You want to change the headgasket on Honda's marvelously craptastic 70hp CX engine? Man, it's not worth your labor... Just swap in someone's unloved SOHC VTEC. You can probably pick one up for much less than $500.

That was the orginal plan, but then I thought it would be better to spend the money on getting the CX running and then we can save up and put in a dohc engine instead of wasting the 500 to buy an EX engine. But on the other hand if I spend the money to replace the head gasket and that is not the only thing wrong with it, I could be up over a few hundred dollars in parts just getting the crapping engine running and it would have been better to by the EX engine. I guess it is a gamble and I dont know which is the safer bet. I am thinking of pulling the head of and seeing what I can see and going from there.....
