Default Distributor Question

Ok. I am rebuilding my distributor, and i am wondering if the plast cover piece behind the rotor is a must have piece. It is number 6 on the diagram below.

thats what i thaught. anyways, how long does a nromal cap and rotor last? Mine is shot after ten years and 120k. I will post pics tomorrow of the cap and rotor. Terminal pins on the cap oar all corroded and eaten away, and the rotor is eatin away too.

my contact barely exists. my car kept missing and ****, so i decided to redo my entire ignition. I picked up a Mr. Gasket Cap and Rotor kit, and an Internal coil. Also Taylor Plug Wires

you should return those wires and get MSD wires....they are lowest resistance without having to pay a lot
