just the right side of my dashboard lights up. the left side (fuel gauge) is just all black.
what could it be? i hope it's like a fuse

 

I'm willing to bet it's the actual bulb in the back of your gauge cluster. Do you know how to take that out?

 

is it hard to take the cluster out?

No it's extremely easy, you just need to be careful not to break the clips when you take the bezel out. and take out a few srews here and there

Super glue is your friend for broken clips...HAHA! It's definately a bulb though.

30 mins. if that, provided you know how to use a phillips screwdriver.

 

Well, lets see...you have a 96-00 civic right?

2 screws hold the black gauge cluster surround in which are located at the top.

Pull that out, then 4 screws hold in the gauge cluster itself on all four corners.

Pull the cluster out and unclip 3 wire conectors..two should be blue and one should be yellow.

The bulbs just twist them a little and pull them out.

Plop in new bulbs and put everything back.

You can use OEM honda bulbs and they will have the blue condom type things on the bulb itself or just get some from your local auto parts store with out the blue things.

I did this and now my cluster lights up white and brighter instead of dull stock green.

Basically you can do this in about 15-30 minutes. 30 if you've never done it before.

lol, i made that mistake in my friends eclipse. what a chore that was.

 

what bulb # is it?
also, the actual indicators don't light up the the gas, temp or speed. will the bulb take care of all 3?
and what "clips" are ard to remove?

 

that happened to me b4 when i was comming home from out of town..i was drivin home on the highway at night wit no lights on my car and couldnt see how fast i was going so i had to use my cell to light up the cluster.lol..my prob. was the fuse..

Your cluster will go black if the lights burn out behind it. You have like one bulb for the gas level...one for the oil temp and two for the speedometer. You also have two at the top of the gauge pod that light up the entire cluster from the outside...not behind like the other four i previously mentioned. If you whole cluster has no lighting, then you definately have a bad connection somewhere...most likely a fuse. Check the fuse box below the steering column if so. That's where mine was blown. I believe it was a 7.5 watt fuse.

So let us know if you get everything squared away.

how did i know if he fuse is bad? like the whole left side doesn't light up

 

my whole cluster didn't light up, then my dad and i checked the fuses and sure enough it was a blown fuse. if only part of your cluster is not lighting up it's a good bet it is just one of your bulbs burned out or a couple of them.
