Clutch problem?????
I just bought a 90 hatch w/ B18 swap it was fine until i got it home. All of a sudden the clutch pedal was hard as a rock and it didnt want to go into gear. I really tried to force it but didnt want to break anything so I left it alone.
As Im stopped, I push in the clutch, try to put it into 1st. The car crawls forward as if I were in 1st gear and just feathering off of the clutch and giving it no gas.
Its kinda hard to paint the picture with words but i think I did a good job.
Thanks in advance

maybe the adjustment is too far out. follow the clutch cable to the tranny. there you will find a plastic nut attached to a plastic bolt on a bracket. its actually part of the cable. there should be some slack there. the more slack there is the closer the engagment is to the floor. too much and its as if the car doesn't need the pedal anymore. sort of.....
not enough and the pedal is too high.
check that out and see if it helps any.
when i first bought my car the clutch was slipping. the kid thought it was burnt out. really the adjustment was way off.

I know what you're saying, and it sounds like your clutch cable is too loose. Give that plastic nut a couple of turns to the right and see if it helps.
The only thing I don't know what you mean is when you say the clutch pedal is hard to push. I can't imagine a cable being so bad that you can't push the clutch, but rather it would likely be a problem with your throw out assembly.
Do you mean that you can push the clutch, but not all the way to the floor? If that's it, there's a button/sensor near the top of your clutch pedal that tells when the clutch is pushed in so you can't start your car without the clutch. It's threaded, and adjustable. If it's just in way too far, then your pedal will stop before it reaches the floor, and less pedal travel would make it so that you can't disengage your clutch enough, which obviously would make it harder to shift and also make you move a little when the clutch is in.
Let me know if that helps!

Im going to mess with the clutch cable after work, I think thats the best place to start.
Now the clutch almost felt like it lost traveling distance....like it didnt come up all the way after I pushed it to the floor. But that might be all in my head....I will post again in the morning.
Thanks

To be honest, The cable isnt going to stretch that quick. Its going to do it over time. or its going to all out break. I would say its something with your throw out bearing, TOB fork, return Spring. The Return spring maybe fubard.
BUT try this, turn the car off, put it in 1st, and push the clutch in and start it. see what it does. Either it WONT turn it over (clutch isnt Disangaging, for the flywheel to spin) or your car will move FWD. if it starts, let off the clutch peddle, see what that does.

No, it won't stretch that fast. But since he just bought it, and it was bad by the time he got home, maybe somebody had messed with the clutch cable beforehand and the rubber piece under the adjustment nut wasn't seated all the way in. Definitely try tightening the cable before anything else. He did mention that the pedal was hard, that's why I suggested he check the clutch pedal sensor to make sure it wasn't just screwed in way too far, limiting pedal travel.
I doubt there's a problem with the throw out assembly because he seems to be getting *almost* enough clutch, and the return spring won't prevent the clutch from disengaging. I'd put all that at the bottom of the list though.
