Why is he an idiot for putting an OEM one back in? It doesnt sound like you provided him with anything better to use.... for blaming the mechanic

according to the mods in ur sig, u dont need an aftermarket hg, oem will do just fine, maybe the car is overheating and the temp gauge is broken, or u ran low on coolant, or maybe the mechanic is just not very good at changing hg's

 

If you do end up putting a copper one on, be ultra careful. You have to deck the head and the block to be perfectly flat and then use the spray on sealent. You can screw this up real easy and then you are burning coolant or worse.
