Default the most horrible noise i've ever heard, need advice

hey, i was wondering if anyone else has done this or if i'm just a social odity

ok this is what happend... while driving i was in fourth gear around 8000 rpm and when i went to shift to 5th gear... i wasn't paying attention and dropped it to 3rd... my engine gave a noise i have never heard any car make (wosre then nails down a slate board for the the pain i felt) and my car turned off... I pulled to the side and tried to turn it back on and nothing... i had the car towed to my house. once there the tow guy said he would give me advice if he could hear it, even worse was this noise, like a bag of nails lose in the engine, i have a itr jdm 1.6 motor

so i was wondering if anyone knows of this i would love the advice (asfar as i know the timing is fine, the belts still there anyway)

i would also love to know if anyone knows where i can get a guide to stripping and rebuilding the engine, just to make sure my diy attitude don't cost me too much more than i would be for a pro to do the job,lol

thanks for any help guys

Sorry man, mechanical over-rev. your valves probably smacked into the pistons. Your going to have to pull the head off, but from what you said, it sounds pretty bad.

Helms manuals are good.

and um, no itr jdm 1.6 motor exists.. unless you speak of the b16b, ctr motor..

I agree, also I wouldn't start to pull things off yourself since you don't even know what motor you have in there. If it's an ITR it's a 1.8L, if it's a CTR then it's a 1.6L

i thought that too, but i went to get the car rolling roaded when it first got imported and asked and he said he had seen another 1.6 type r before

do you think it would be the head thats wrong, i was scared that it would be the bottom end, dropped a rod or something

is there any online guides cos its hard to pick up manuals for jdms in the uk, my lude took me a month to find one

If you have bent valves, the rockers will be significantly out of adjustment and will clack. Your timing belt may have also jumped a few teeth or even have broken. I wouldn't recommend trying to crank the engine until you verify the status of the belt, as you may do further damage. You will be removing the head. Hopefully your pistons and cylinders are OK.

What's wrong with this statement?

Not paying attention while at 110+mph ?

could'nt have said it any better.... 8000rpm and in 4 th gear going
redline.... Thats no grounds for a mistake......
Now in a Type S that would'nt surprise me, But in a R you have
to be pretty unfamiliar.......

any integra owner knows how far to the right 5th is from 4th, either you are really dumb or just new to your car

not paying attention at 115

ive heard if your in 5th and you pull down REALLLLY hard, you can hit 6th gear VTAK!

You mean you thought it was a 1.6 because of a dyno read out? Did you not already know what size engine was in the car when you bought it? Dont you need to know that in scotland for Insurance/Tax/MOT/SVA etc etc etc.

Anyway it sounds definitely like you have bent a load of valves, judging by your bag of nails description. Pull the head off and inspect the damage, and dont let anyone else start it until you get it looked at.

stop trying to turn the car on!!!! chances are if it sounds like nails in the motor, you have valve pieces floating around in there and you are going to F it up even more. STEP AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE, find someone that knows what the hell they are doing and take it apart. Sounds like you are going to need new piston(s), valves, valve job/head work. hopefully your cylinders arent toast. and you might want to pay attention to the road and your shifts next time

well this is the second time i tried to write this, so this verson will be a little less detailed, lol (i hate windows)

your questions answered

firstly, i am new to the car, as in less than 2 months in the car, although that wasn't the reason for the mis-shift it was just accidental. the integra was a present from my girlfriend for chirstmas. i work away from home and she lives in the states so christmas presents are usualy late for us, but anyway cos of this i never had to deal with any of the mot or insurance etc since its in her name.

i have a lude too and was curious to see which was better on the 1/4 mile, on the way home from the 1/4 runs, it was late on the empty motorway and well i wanted to see which was quicker again. it was dumb and i deserve all i get for being so stupid on the main roads but anyway as i recall it was like 100 when i shifted give or take (which will make sence in just a min why it wasn't 115)

before i even got the car it was sent to get rolling roaded and thats where it was when i got it (she told me i had something to pick up from the garage that was doing it, i expected an exhaust, lol). when i picked it up the guy said the chip had just been set up better for the engine and that he didn't know if i knew it was a 1.6, i was surprised cos i didn't know there was a 1.6 type R (which you guys confirmed there isn't) but he said he had seen one before. my dyno was marked up as a 1.6 and so i took it that he knew what he was talking about and was a little disapointed that it wasn't (asfar as i knew at the time) the 1.8 type R.

when i drove it home it wasn't as fast as the one i had driven before but i thought that was due to it being smaller (now it seems to me it could be partly cos the guy fucked up the tuning) but anyway that was that. once you guys said that there wasn't a 1.6 i went to the local honda garage and asked them to take a look and the gneral concensus there says the origanal rolling road readings looks like a normal type R and the second is unknown to him.

hope that clears my strangeness up, lol, i'm just very uninformed (or mis-informed) on the integra imports.

also i would like to thank everyone thats tried to help me, its appreciated

Check your engine block near the transmission (left side when looking at the car) for the block code. It should say B18C5. (It might be B18C# for the UK. I don't know.) Perhaps this tuner stole your engine.
