SI i-VTEC like SOHC VTEC?
ok i've been wondering this for a while now, and i know the k20a in the civic SI has the i-vtec system and i read up on it and from what i know the only vtec part of it is on the intake cams and not the exhaust cams. And I know that the SOHC VTEC motors vtec only activates the intake valves rather than both. so in a sense the si i-VTEC works just like the sohc vtec, at least for the vtec part of the whole matter. correct me if im wrong, I just want to know if what im inferring is right or wrong. thanks. all feedback welcomed.
The SOHC vtec cams have 3 lobes and the ep3 only has 2 lobes on the intake side and the exhaust side. Its kinda like a "fake" vtec. The only new engines that have the real vtec are the k20a2 (rsx-s) and k24a3 (tsx) and the rest are fake vtec. It doesnt work like the original vtec motors. (b16a,b18c,h22a etc.)
k20a3 (ep3)

k20a2 (type-s)
k20a3 (ep3)

k20a2 (type-s)
yeah well said
the k20a3 does not have vtec on the exhaust cam
and one lobe on the intake cam is almost round so only 1 intake cams opens to save gas

wow aint that some bullshit. only 2 lobes and only on the intake side. thats some really wack **** i think. can that even produce alot of vtec power? i doubt it. they should take the Vtec off of those motors and put "half-vtec" or "fake-vtec" IMO.
THIS IS WHY I GOT MY *** OUT OF THE EP3 AS FAST AS I COULD
...it was slow, even with Hondata...but a nice car, and the future of Honda hatches, as long as it has a k20a2 or better
