Default Head Overporting

Is it possible to have a head ported "too much" for a given cam?

Say you had a head specially ported for JUN III cams, then you used that same head later on with Toda A or Spoon cams.

Would the lesser cams lose more power than they normally would (meaning loss of power from the porting, not the fact that the cams themselves are less aggressive)?

Road Race application.

Im pretty sure you dont port to match cams, you port for maximum flow of your given head.

You can port a head to match a cam as far as trying to make power in a given rpm range.

It is totally possible to over port a head and lose power. If you ported a head for an aggressive cam and switched back to a mild cam I could see it affecting power for sure. How much depends on how heavily the head was ported.

Very True, I am having a head ported now so it will flow perfectly for my other motor which will be using Crower 405's.

yes you can port to big, I did this a long time ago when I was first taught to port. on an early b16 the car was laggy but when the vtec kicked in it really kicked ***. every one thaught the car was on NOS. other than when the big cam was on the car sucked and got poor milleage. be careful porting or take it to an experienced engine builder and let him know all the mods that the car will be running. good luck

the biggest problem ive seen with head porting is fuel puddling some people leave the intake side smooth as a babys *** and your head is fucked i had a guy port a head for a b18c5 and when i picked it up i basically had to throw it in the garbage

The intake ports need to be rough, but the exhaust ports can be smooth though, right?

yes the exhaust the smoother the better but the intake has to be rough for the fuel to atomize properly

yes, it is... head flow vs. displacement sets the power band of the motor, so you want a camshaft that'll match that... see if this thread makes sense: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=698160
