Default HELP WITH D15B SWAP

I have an 89 DX and brought a 92 D15B motor to put in it. It was supposed to come with a tranny, but the guy sold that separate. So I brought a 88 Si tranny cuz I was told it would work. Now the guy who sold it to said it wouldn't. I just need to know is it possible or not. I have already started my swap and have gone to far to turn back now.

It will work as long as you use a clutch (and i believe you need the flywheel...someone correct me if i am wrong) from an 88 civic/crx

That is what a few people told me. So I think youre right. I was also told all you need to do is switch the input shafts from the 88 tranny to the D15B. I never done anything like that. Any thoughts?

No there is no need to switch input shafts. The only mod you need to make is the clutch and flywheel

Yea, actually, you could NOT use the '92 tranny. It's the one that won't fit. The '88 will fit. Here's a page that has all the size/spline conut info you'll need:

http://thenew.gamesbbs.com/~dmoore/tranny.htm

Unfortunately, '88 is an odd ball year and is smaller in diameter and uses a different spline count than other years, so you pretty much need clutch, Pressure plate, and flywheel for the '88.

I just called a friend who is doing the swap with me. He said the only differnce is the bearings. And all we need to do is change them.

He said if we switch the bearing on the 88 tranny and everything else will fit fine.

It has nothing to do with bearings. The tranny physically fits, its just that an '88 uses a different spline count on the input shaft that later trannies and it also uses a smaller clutch/PP/flywheel that later cars.... check the link and good luck if you guys aren't going to listen.....

The fitment problem has nothing to do with the bearings. The input shaft spline count is different between the 88 and 89-90-91 transmissions. Plus the 88 has a smaller clutch surface area hence you need a different flywheel. Just get the 88 clutch and flywheel and use the 88 trans. Or you could get an 89-91 transmission and use the clutch that is on the engine.

Thanks. I think I'll do that. Do you know any good places to order the fly wheel and clutch?
